The starting point of the Trans Canada Highway can be found at the junction of Douglas Street and Dallas Road, close to the picturesque Victoria waterfront. This spot marks the commencement of the extensive Trans-Canada Highway, which stretches over 8,000 kilometers, traversing the entire expanse of Canada. Situated within a spacious grassy area adjacent to the captivating Beacon Hill Park, Mile 0 is also notable for featuring a sculpture of Terry Fox. Fox, who endured the loss of his right leg to cancer at the age of 18, embarked on a cross-Canada run with the aim of fundraising for cancer research. His journey began on the East coast of Canada in Newfoundland and was intended to conclude at the Mile 0 marker in Victoria. Unfortunately, Fox's remarkable quest came to a tragic end around the midpoint when he fell seriously ill and ultimately succumbed to cancer. Since that time, substantial funds have been raised in his honor to support cancer research, amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars.
